Commission meetings and hearings

On August 29 and 30, the Commission met in executive session.

Audits

Proposed Final Audit Report on the Communications Workers of America - COPE Political Contributions Committee On August 30, the Commission approved, subject to edits made at the table, the Proposed Final Audit Report on the Communications Workers of America – COPE Political Contributions Committee, covering campaign finance activity between January 1, 2019 and December 31, 2020. The Commission approved findings related to misstatement of financial activity and disclosure of occupation and name of employer.

Audit Division Recommendation Memorandum on Steve Daines for Montana On August 30, the Commission approved Findings 2 and 3, subject to edits made at the table, in the Audit Division Recommendation Memorandum on Steve Daines for Montana, covering campaign finance activity from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2020. The approved findings related to disclosure of debts and obligations and disclosure of receipts.

Regulations and agency procedures

Proposed Directive Regarding Investigations Conducted by the Office of General Counsel. On August 23, the Commission made public a Memorandum from Commissioner Allen J. Dickerson regarding a Proposed Directive on Investigations Conducted by the Office of General Counsel. On August 29, the Commission received a comment from Representative Joseph D. Morelle on the Proposed Directive.

Public Disclosure

On August 28, the Office of the Inspector General published a Special Review of the FEC Travel and Purchase Card Programs.

Litigation

Palmer v. FEC (Case No. 22-2876) On August 29, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia issued a Memorandum Opinion and Order granting the Commission’s Motion to Dismiss.

Ready to Win v. FEC (Case No. 23-5161) On August 28, the Commission filed a Partial Motion to Dismiss in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

Stein, et al. v. FEC (Case No. 21-1213) On August 31, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit issued a Per Curiam Order denying the petition for rehearing en banc and a Per Curiam Order denying the petition for panel rehearing.

On August 30, the Commission hosted a Candidate 101 webinar.

Contribution Limits. In addition to the current limits, the Commission has posted an archive of contribution limits that were in effect going back to the 1975-1976 election cycles.

Federal Elections 2020: Election Results for the U.S. President, the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives is now available. The data was compiled from the official vote totals published by state election offices.

The Presidential Election Campaign Fund Tax Checkoff Chart provides information on balance of the Fund, monthly deposits into the Fund reported by the Department of the Treasury, payments from the Fund as certified by the FEC, and participation rates of taxpayers as reported by the Internal Revenue Service. Other election-related resources

Videos on protecting U.S. elections. The FBI’s Protected Voices initiative provides videos designed to help political campaigns protect themselves from foreign influence. The 2019 videos offer guidance on ransomware, business email compromise, supply chain, social media literacy, and foreign influence operations. Other videos, released in 2018, include cyber hygiene topics such as social engineering, patching, router hardening, and app and browser safety.
