On October 20, the Commission met in executive session.

Litigation

Campaign Legal Center, et al. v. FEC (Case No. 19-2336) On October 16, Defendant-Intervenors Correct the Record and Hillary for America filed a Reply Brief in Support of Defendant-Intervenors’ Cross-Motion for Summary Judgment in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

Campaign Legal Center v. FEC (Case No. 20-5159) On October 21, GEO Corrections Holdings, Inc. filed a Brief of Amicus Curiae in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

McCutcheon, et al. v. FEC (Case No. 20-2485) On October 19, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia issued a Memorandum Opinion and Order denying Plaintiffs’ motion for a preliminary injunction. On October 22, Plaintiffs filed a Notice of Dismissal.

Outreach

On October 19, Commissioner Ellen L. Weintraub’s op-ed “Justice Kavanaugh Unlocked Ways to Fight Foreign Interference” was published in The New York Times.

On October 20, Commissioner Weintraub spoke via videoconference about campaign finance, the FEC, and the 2020 election to a class on National Elections at Villanova University.

On October 20, Press Officer Judith Ingram and Public Affairs Specialist Myles Martin spoke by video conference on the Commission’s role and disclosure systems with journalism students at the University of Maryland, College Park.

On October 21, Commissioner Weintraub participated in the Washington Foreign Press Center On-the-Record Virtual Briefing, where she spoke to journalists about campaign finance, the FEC, and the 2020 election.

On October 22, Commissioner Weintraub spoke via videoconference about campaign finance, the FEC, and the 2020 election to students at The Beacon School, a public high school in New York City.

On October 23, Commissioner Weintraub gave a talk via videoconference on campaign finance, the FEC, and the 2020 election as part of Salem State University’s “Your Vote, Your Voice: Election 2020” series.

Status of agency operations

See the Commission’s statement on the status of agency operations, updated on August 10, 2020. At this stage, most agency staff remain in telework status and the Commission’s office remains closed to visitors.

Contribution Limits. In addition to the current limits, the Commission has posted an archive of contribution limits that were in effect going back to the 1975-1976 election cycles.

Federal Elections 2018: Election Results for the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives is available. The data was compiled from the official vote totals published by state election offices.

Other election-related resources

Videos on protecting U.S. elections. The FBI’s Protected Voices initiative provides videos designed to help political campaigns protect themselves from foreign influence. The 2019 videos offer guidance on ransomware, business email compromise, supply chain, social media literacy, and foreign influence operations. Other videos, released in 2018, include cyber hygiene topics such as social engineering, patching, router hardening, and app and browser safety.
