Advisory Opinions

Request Withdrawn

Advisory Opinion Request 2020-05 On November 12, the Committee to Elect Mark Charles for President, the authorized committee of an independent presidential candidate that did not participate in a primary, withdrew its request for an advisory opinion. The requestor had asked whether it was entitled to a separate contribution limit for a primary and, if so, how to determine the primary date for that purpose and for purposes of the candidate’s eligibility for a salary.

Public Disclosure

On November 16, the Commission released its Fiscal Year 2020 Agency Financial Report.

On November 16, the Commission’s Office of the Inspector General (OIG) released its Audit of the Federal Election Commission’s Annual Financial Statements Fiscal Year 2020.

On November 17, the Commission’s OIG made public its report on Management and Performance Challenges Facing the FEC for Fiscal Year 2021.

Outreach

On November 18, Commission Chair James E. “Trey” Trainor, III spoke via videoconference about campaign finance, the role of the FEC, and the 2020 election to the U.S. Pastors Council.

On November 18, Commissioner Ellen L. Weintraub spoke via videoconference about the FEC and public service to students at the University of Michigan Law School.

On November 18, the Commission hosted a webinar on winding down the campaign and Post-Election reporting.

Status of agency operations

Contribution Limits. In addition to the current limits, the Commission has posted an archive of contribution limits that were in effect going back to the 1975-1976 election cycles.

Federal Elections 2018: Election Results for the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives is available. The data was compiled from the official vote totals published by state election offices.

Other election-related resources

Videos on protecting U.S. elections. The FBI’s Protected Voices initiative provides videos designed to help political campaigns protect themselves from foreign influence. The 2019 videos offer guidance on ransomware, business email compromise, supply chain, social media literacy, and foreign influence operations. Other videos, released in 2018, include cyber hygiene topics such as social engineering, patching, router hardening, and app and browser safety.
