Last-minute filing frenzy

October 22, 2018

For some committees, the pre-general report (see last week's tip) will be the final FEC filing required before Election Day. Many filers, however, may be required to submit additional notices to disclose last-minute activity.

Campaign committees must disclose within 48 hours any contribution of $1,000 or more received between October 18 and November 3. Visit our page on filing 48-Hour Notices for more information.

Individuals, corporations, labor organizations and unregistered groups making electioneering communications that aggregate $10,000 or more must also file 24-Hour Reports to disclose the funds they raised and spent. (Use FEC Form 9 [Instructions] [Online Webform].)

PACs, party committees and others making independent expenditures that aggregate $1,000 or more between October 18 and November 4 must file 24-Hour Reports to disclose those expenditures. PACs (including Super PACs) and party committees report such expenditures using Schedule E [PDF] [Instructions] [Online Webform]. Individuals, corporations, labor organizations and unregistered groups use FEC Form 5 [PDF] [Instructions] [Online Webform].
