FEC TAKES FINAL ACTION ON THREE CASES
WASHINGTON – The Federal Election Commission recently made public its final action on three matters under review (MURs). In one matter, the Commission found no reason to believe a violation had occurred. The Commission dismissed the other two matters.
Under the law, the FEC must attempt to resolve its enforcement cases, or MURs, through a confidential investigative process that may lead to a negotiated conciliation agreement between the Commission and the individual or group.Additional information regarding MURs can be found on the FEC web site at http://www.fec.gov/em/mur.shtml.

The complaint alleges that Bay City Educators Public Affairs Council and its treasurer made a $500 contribution to Stupak for Congress, triggering political committee status and the reporting and registration requirements of the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971, as amended ("the Act").

The Commission found no reason to believe the respondents violated the Act because the respondents had not established a separate segregated fund under the Act, and they did not achieve political committee status because they did not exceed the contribution or expenditure threshold of $1,000 in a calendar year. |

The Federal Election Commission (FEC) is an independent regulatory agency that administers and enforces federal campaign finance laws.
