FEC TAKES FINAL ACTION ON FIVE CASES
WASHINGTON – The Federal Election Commission recently made public its final action on five matters under review (MURs). In the first matter, the Commission found no reason to believe a violation occurred. It closed the file in the four remaining cases.
Under the law, the FEC must attempt to resolve its enforcement cases, or MURs, through a confidential investigative process that may lead to a negotiated conciliation agreement between the Commission and the individual or group.Additional information regarding MURs can be found on the FEC web site at http://www.fec.gov/em/mur.shtml.

The complaint alleged that the Lantern Project, a Section 527 political committee, and Donlen, in his official capacity as treasurer, failed to register as a political committee with the FEC and failed to file disclosure reports with the FEC. It further alleged that the group raised excessive contributions and spent funds to influence the 2006 Pennsylvania Senatorial race between Rick Santorum and Bob Casey. |
OUTCOME: |
The Commission found no reason to believe that the Lantern Project violated the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971, as amended (the Act), by failing to register as a political committee, failing to report contributions and expenditures, or knowingly accepting excessive contributions and prohibited contributions from labor organizations. |
