FEC RELEASES SUMMARY OF NATIONAL PARTY FINANCIAL ACTIVITY
WASHINGTON – National committees of the two major political parties have spent $865.1 million during the 2007-2008 election-cycle according to a Federal Election Commission (FEC) summary released today. The most recent comprehensive disclosures of all financial activity were submitted on October 23, indicating that national party committees raised $981.2 million between January 1, 2007, and October 15, 2008. Republican committees, including the Republican National Committee (RNC), the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) and the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) raised $518.8 million in federally permissible “hard money.” During the same period from January 2007 through mid-October of 2008, the Democratic National Committee (DNC), Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) raised $462.4 million in federally permissible funds. Republican committees reported $81.8 million in cash remaining on October 15, while their Democratic counterparts reported $42.7 million available on that date. The Federal Election Commission (FEC) is an independent regulatory agency that administers and enforces federal campaign finance laws. The FEC has jurisdiction over the financing of campaigns for the U.S. House, the U.S. Senate, the Presidency and the Vice Presidency. Established in 1975, the FEC is composed of six Commissioners who are nominated by the President and confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
