COMMISSION MEETINGS AND HEARINGS
On September 9, the Commission held an executive session.
The open meeting previously scheduled for September 11 was cancelled.
LITIGATION
Center for Competitive Politics v. FEC (Case 1:14-cv-00970-RBW). On September 11, the plaintiff filed an Opposition to Motion for Summary Judgment in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.
Holmes, et al. v. FEC (Case 1:14-cv-01243-RMC). On September 8, the Commission filed its Opposition to Plaintiffs’ Motion for Preliminary Injunction in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.
Independence Institute v. FEC (Case 1:14-cv-01500-CKK). On September 2, the Independence Institute filed a Verified Complaint in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. On September 4, the plaintiff filed a Motion for a Preliminary Injunction. On September 10, the Commission filed a Joint Stipulation of the Parties and Order of the Court as to the Scope of Plaintiffs’ Allegations and Claims, which the Court entered as an Order the same day.
Public Citizen, et al. v. FEC (Case 1:14-cv-00148-RJL). On September 10, the Commission filed its Cross-Motion for Summary Judgment and Opposition to Plaintiffs'''' Motion for Summary Judgment in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.
Stop Reckless Economic Instability caused by Democrats, et al. v. FEC (Case 1:14-cv-00397-AJT-IDD). On September 8, the Commission filed its Opposition to Plaintiffs’ Motion to Join American Future PAC in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
OUTREACH
On September 10, Chairman Lee E. Goodman discussed new trends in political campaigns and campaign contributions for the U.S. mid-term elections with two leaders from Spain, who were visiting the United States as guests of the United States Embassy in Madrid, Spain.
On September 10, Vice Chair Ann M. Ravel participated in the taping of a televised debate regarding campaign finance issues at the University of Virginia''''s Miller Center. The debate is part of the "American Forum" series and is scheduled to be shown on PBS stations on October 5. On September 11, Chairman Goodman and Vice Chair Ravel spoke about recent developments at the Commission at the Practicing Law Institute’s seminar, “Corporate Political Activities 2014: Complying with Campaign Finance, Lobbying and Ethics Laws.”
UPCOMING EVENTS
Public Forum on Website Improvement. The FEC’s Public Forum on Website Improvement is scheduled for September 17. In partnership with 18F, a newly formed organization within the General Services Administration (GSA), the FEC has launched a website redesign effort to improve the public’s access to campaign finance data, guidance and regulations, and filing information. An open discussion with Commissioners and senior staff will be held from 10:00-12:00 pm, and working group breakout sessions with Commission staff moderated by 18F will meet from 1:00-3:00 pm. Space is limited; if you would like to participate in person, please email us at websiteforum@fec.gov. Alternatively, you may listen to the open discussion through a live audio feed available on FEC.gov, which requires no pre-registration.
