COMMISSION MEETINGS AND HEARINGS

No Commission open meetings or executive sessions were scheduled this week.

LITIGATION 

FEC v. Craig for U.S. Senate, et al. (Case 1:12-cv-00958-ABJ).  On November 24, the plaintiff filed a Notice of Appeal to the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

CREW, et al. v. FEC (Case 1:14-cv-01419-CRC). On November 24, the plaintiffs filed an Opposition to the Commission’s Motion to Dismiss in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.

Independence Institute v. FEC (Case 14-5249). On November 25, the Commission filed its Motion for Summary Affirmance in the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

Stop Reckless Economic Instability caused by Democrats, et al. v. FEC (Case 1:14-cv-00397-AJT-IDD). On November 21, the Commission filed its Response to Intervenor-Plaintiff American Future PAC''''s Supplemental Proposed Findings of Fact and Conclusions of Law in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.  On the same day, Intervenor-Plaintiff American Future PAC filed its Response to Commission''''s Supplemental Factual Submission and Briefing.

Van Hollen v. FEC (Case 1:11-cv-0766-ABJ). On November 25, the United States District Court for the District of Columbia issued its Memorandum Opinion and Order, granting plaintiff’s motion for summary judgment and denying the Commission’s cross motion for summary judgment. The Court ordered further that 11 C.F.R. § 104.20(c)(9) is vacated.

RULEMAKING

McCutcheon v. FEC Interim Final Rule. This week the Commission made public comments that it received on an Interim Final Rule implementing McCutcheon v. FEC (Reg. 2014-07).  In the Interim Final Rule, the Commission removed from its regulations the limits on the aggregate amounts that an individual may contribute to federal candidate and political committees in each two-year election cycle.

OUTREACH

On November 24 - 25, Commissioner Steven T. Walther participated in the Ninth Inter-American Meeting for Electoral Management Bodies in Lima, Peru. The event was sponsored by the Department for Electoral Cooperation and Observation of the Secretariat for Political Affairs of the Organization of American States, The National Board of Elections and the National Office of Electoral Processes of Peru.

The FEC Annual Reports from 1975-2006 are available on the website. Beginning in 2007, the Commission consolidated its Annual Report with its Performance and Accountability Report (PAR) to provide a single account of the agency’s activities for each fiscal year.
