ADVISORY OPINIONS
Comment Received
AOR 2015-08 (Repledge). On September 3, the Commission received a comment on Advisory Opinion Request 2015-08. Repledge proposes to establish a web-based platform that allows supporters of opposing Federal candidates to redirect potential contributions to charitable organizations. Repledge asks a number of questions relating to its proposal, including whether it will receive contributions and violate the prohibition on corporate contributions to candidates. The Commission must issue a response no later than 60 days after receipt of the complete request, specifically by October 19, 2015.
ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION
The Commission made public two campaign finance enforcement matters that were resolved through its Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) program, as follows. For more information, see the case documents in the Enforcement Query System.
ADR 768 – VOTE 2 REDUCE DEBT (V2RD) and Kenneth W. Davis Jr., in his official capacity as treasurer. The respondent agreed to pay a civil penalty of $3,750.
ADR 770 – US Chamber of Commerce. The respondent agreed to (1) certify that a representative of the Committee participated in an FEC conference, webinar, or other program developed in consultation with the FEC’s Information Division, and (2) pay a civil penalty of $2,500.
LITIGATION
CREW v. FEC (Case 1:14-cv-01419-CRC). On August 27, the Commission filed its Answer in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.
OUTREACH
On September 3-5, Chair Ann M. Ravel was a speaker on two panels during the Global Conference on Money in Politics in Mexico City, Mexico. The conference was sponsored by the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance and the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judiciary of Mexico.
