Reporting independent expenditures

February 28, 2022

If you make independent expenditures in connection with an upcoming election, you may trigger special reporting obligations. Political committees and other persons that make independent expenditures may have to disclose this activity within 24- or 48-hours of public distribution or dissemination based upon the date and amount of the expenditure. Consult this page for a full list of 24- and 48-hour reporting dates in connection with Congressional primaries, special elections, and the 2022 General Election. To help the public understand independent expenditures and the reporting requirements that come along with making them, consider attending the Commission’s March 16 Independent Expenditures Webinar.
