Switching filing frequency?

February 5, 2024

Party committees that do not conduct reportable federal election activity and all political action committees (PACs) have the option to file reports on a “monthly” or “quarterly” filing schedule. During a federal election year (such as 2024), committees active in several states may find it easier to file on a monthly schedule to avoid having to file pre-primary reports for each election in which they make previously undisclosed contributions or expenditures. PACs and party committees are permitted to switch filing frequency once per year. Electronic filers may use Form 99 to notify the Commission of a change in filing frequency and will receive an email from the Commission approving the filing frequency change. Committees that filed semi-annually last year automatically file on the quarterly schedule in 2024; they need only submit a change notification to switch to a monthly schedule.
