Responding to an RFAI

February 10, 2025

At some point, your committee may receive a Request for Additional Information (RFAI) from the Commission. Our Campaign Finance Analysts send RFAIs when they need clarification or identify an error, omission or possible prohibited activity on a committee’s report. The recipient committee then has an opportunity to correct or explain information included in its report for the public record.

Committees have 35 days from the date of the RFAI letter to respond. The FEC cannot issue an extension under any circumstances, and failure to respond may result in further Commission action.

Please visit the Commission’s Request for Additional Information (RFAI) page for more information.
