New versions of FECFile, FEC reporting forms available

June 9, 2017

On June 7, 2017, the FEC released a new version of FECFile and posted revised versions of several reporting forms on its website.

FECFile update

The new version of FECFile, version 8.2, is available on the FEC website at https://www.fec.gov/help-candidates-and-committees/filing-reports/fecfile-software/. Current FECFile users should open their software and accept the automatic update.

Reports filed in the previous electronic filing format will no longer be accepted. Filers may also use commercial or privately developed software as long as the software meets the Commission’s format specifications, which are available on the Commission’s website. Committees using commercial software should contact their vendors for more information about the Commission’s latest format release.

Updated reporting forms

Reporting forms revised include:

  • FEC Form 1 (Statement of Organization): Used to register candidates' authorized campaign committees and to register PACs and political party committees;
  • FEC Form 2 (Statement of Candidacy): Used to register candidates for House, Senate and President;
  • FEC Form 3 (Report of Receipts and Disbursements): Used by authorized committees of House and Senate candidates; and
  • FEC Form 3P (Report of Receipts and Disbursements): Used by authorized committees of presidential candidates.

FEC Forms 1 and 2 were updated with supplemental pages for the disclosure of additional information, including additional joint fundraising participants, affiliated committees, designated agents, depositories, and authorized committees.

FEC Forms 3 and 3P were updated with revised versions of Forms 3Z and 3Z-P for use by principal campaign committees of candidates with multiple authorized committees.

Committees should begin using the revised forms immediately. Copies can be downloaded from the FEC website at https://www.fec.gov/help-candidates-and-committees/forms/ or ordered by calling, toll-free, 1-800/424-9530 (press 6) or sending an email to info@fec.gov.
