FEC to Meet on December 14 to Consider Five Advisory Opinions, Candidate Travel Regulations and Explanation and Justification of Electioneering Communications Rule

Washington – The Federal Election Commission (FEC/ the Commission) will meet on Friday, December 14, 2007, to consider:

• An Advisory Opinion Request (AOR) from ActBlue regarding its ability, as a nonconnected political action committee (PAC), to solicit, receive and forward contributions to corporate or union PACs;
• An AOR from Representatives Kevin McCarthy (CA/22) and Devin Nunes (CA/21) regarding their ability to raise funds for the qualification and passage of a ballot initiative on redistricting;
• An AOR from John Edwards for President asking whether contributions processed through ActBlue may be matched with public funds under the Presidential public funding program;
• An AOR from Holland & Knight, LLP regarding its status as a corporation or a partnership for the purpose of administering and financially supporting a political action committee (PAC); and
• An AOR from Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. (IL/2) regarding his ability to appear in advertisements endorsing a non-federal candidate.

The Commission will consider the Explanation and Justification of the final rules implementing the Supreme Court''''s ruling in FEC v. Wisconsin Right to Life, which the Commission adopted on November 20, 2007.

The Commission will also consider final rules to implement a portion of the Honest Leadership and Open Government Act of 2007 (HLOGA) regulating the travel of federal candidates on non-commercial aircraft.

The meeting will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the 9th floor hearing room at the Commission’s offices located at 999 E Street N.W. in Washington.

The Federal Election Commission (FEC) is an independent regulatory agency that administers and enforces federal campaign finance laws.
