FEC to Consider Advisory Opinions on Presidential Matching Fund Program and Campaign Activity by Foreign Nationals
Washington – The Federal Election Commission (FEC/ the Commission) will meet on Thursday, November 29, 2007, to consider an Advisory Opinion (AO) in response to a request from Chris Dodd for President, Inc., the campaign committee for Senator Chris Dodd (CT). The request centers on whether contributions may be matched with public funds under the Presidential public funding program if the contributions were made via credit card over the Internet using alternative security verification procedures. The Commission will also consider an AO in response to a request from Jim Hurysz, an Independent candidate in Virginia’s 8th Congressional District. Mr. Hurysz requested an AO regarding the ability of Canadian citizens to participate in his campaign. The draft AO is located at here.
The meeting will be held at 10:00 a.m. in the 9th floor hearing room at the Commission’s offices located at 999 E Street N.W. in Washington.
The Federal Election Commission (FEC) is an independent regulatory agency that administers and enforces federal campaign finance laws. The FEC has jurisdiction over the financing of campaigns for the U.S. House, the U.S. Senate, the Presidency and the Vice Presidency. Established in 1975, the FEC is composed of six Commissioners who are nominated by the President and confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
