FEC RELEASES 6-MONTH HOUSE FUNDRAISING FIGURES | ||
WASHINGTON - Campaign finance reports filed with the Federal
Election Commission covering the first six months of 2003 show 435 incumbents reporting
receipts of $92.8 million, a $9.7 million increase from the comparable period for
incumbents in 2001. From January through June of this year, 228 Republicans reported
raising $52.1 million, while 205 Democrats raised $40.7 million. Democrats had cash on
hand at the end of the reporting period of $79.3 million and Republicans $91.8 million. Republican incumbents reported median receipts of $184,932 compared to $150,613 for Democrats. For the comparable period in 2001, Republicans had median receipts of $171,469 and Democrats $145,748. For the first six months in 1999, Republicans had median receipts of $158,803 and Democrats $111,699. Receipts for the 34 Republican freshmen came to $10.5 million while the 20 Democratic freshmen had receipts of $4.6 million. Democratic freshmen had median receipts of $206,607 while the median for Republicans was $268,265. Non-incumbents raised a total of $11.3 million during the first six months of 2003, with 38 Democrats raising $1.8 million and 82 Republicans raising $9.5 million. In a comparable period of 2001, 42 Democrats raised $4.0 million and 52 Republicans raised $3.1 million. In 1999’s first six months, 81 Democrats raised $6.9 million and 76 Republicans raised $7.2 million. Included in the following tables are the rankings of House members for the following categories: total receipts, contributions from individuals, PAC contributions, disbursements, cash on hand, and debts owed.
