FEC cautions against fraudulent email
WASHINGTON – The Federal Election Commission has learned that a malicious actor has sent fraudulent emails purporting to be from the Commission, titled “Update Your Voter Registration Now!”
The emails originate from an address, fec@srvgov.com, that is not associated with the Federal Election Commission, and directs recipients to click on a link.
The Commission reminds members of the public to check carefully the return address of any email purportedly from the Commission. The Commission’s emails would always come from addresses ending with .gov or service.govdelivery.com.
Voters can visit the Commission’s Election Day webpage to access helpful links to be directed to state and federal voting resources.
The Federal Election Commission (FEC) is an independent regulatory agency that administers and enforces federal campaign finance laws. The FEC has jurisdiction over the financing of campaigns for the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate, the Presidency and the Vice Presidency. Established in 1975, the FEC is composed of six Commissioners who are nominated by the President and confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
