FEC Approves AOs on Independent Expenditure-Only Political Committees

July 23, 2010

The Commission has issued two advisory opinions (AOs 2010-09 and 2010-11) concerning the effect of recent court decisions on groups engaged solely in making independent expenditures. The opinions include the text of a letter that independent expenditure-only committees may use to identify themselves as such, pending forthcoming Commission rulemakings. A new registrant or other paper filer may send this letterwith its Statement of Organization (Form 1). Existing committees that file electronically may amend their Statement of Organization by submitting the text of the letter using Form 99.
