FEC approves advisory opinion, two Audit documents

WASHINGTON – At its open meeting today, the Federal Election Commission approved an advisory opinion. Prior to the meeting, the Commission approved an Audit Division recommendation and a Proposed Final Audit Report on tally vote.

Advisory Opinion 2023-07 (Upshur County Republican Executive Committee) The Commission approved an advisory opinion in response to a request from the Upshur County Republican Executive Committee (Upshur County). The Commission concluded that Upshur County and the West Virginia Republican Party are not affiliated for the purposes of the contribution limits of the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971, as amended (the Act). During the meeting, the Commission heard from counsel for the requestor.

Audit Division Recommendation Memorandum on the Oklahoma Leadership Council Prior to the meeting, the Commission approved on tally vote an Audit Division Recommendation Memorandum on the Oklahoma Leadership Council, covering campaign finance activity from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2020. The Commission approved findings related to Misstatement of Financial Activity, Increased Activity, Contributions from Unregistered Political Organizations, Reporting of Debts and Obligations, Recordkeeping for Communications, Recordkeeping for Employees, and Reporting of Apparent Independent Expenditures.

Proposed Final Audit Report on Citizens for Waters Prior to the meeting, the Commission approved on tally vote a Proposed Final Audit Report on Citizens for Waters, covering campaign finance activity from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2020. The Commission approved findings related to Misstatement of Financial Activity, Receipt of Contributions in Excess of the Limit, and Cash Disbursements.

The Federal Election Commission (FEC) is an independent regulatory agency that administers and enforces federal campaign finance laws. The FEC has jurisdiction over the financing of campaigns for the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate, the Presidency and the Vice Presidency. Established in 1975, the FEC is composed of six Commissioners who are nominated by the President and confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
