FEC Approves Advisory Opinion
FEC APPROVES ADVISORY OPINION WASHINGTON – At its Open Meeting today, the Federal Election Commission approved an advisory opinion concerning an organization’s qualifications to be a State committee of a political party. In Advisory Opinion 2010-13 (Libertarian Party of Florida), the Commission concluded that the Libertarian Party of Florida (LPF) qualifies as a State committee of a political party because the national Libertarian Party qualifies as a political party, the LPF is part of the official Libertarian Party structure, and the LPF is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Libertarian Party at the State level.
The Federal Election Commission (FEC) is an independent regulatory agency that administers and enforces federal campaign finance laws. The FEC has jurisdiction over the financing of campaigns for the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate, the Presidency and the Vice Presidency. Established in 1975, the FEC is composed of six Commissioners who are nominated by the President and confirmed by the U.S. Senate. # # # |
