COMMISSION APPEALS RULING IN AFL-CIO v. FEC WASHINGTON – The Federal Election Commission today appealed to the United States Court of Appeals, District of Columbia Circuit, the decision rendered in district court on December 19, 2001, in AFL-CIO v. FEC. Plaintiffs in the case challenged the Commission’s decision to release some 6,000 documents from an enforcement file of some 50,000 pages in a series of closed Matters Under Review (collectively MUR 4291). The Commission has previously made available in its Public Records Room the underlying documents from closed enforcement matters. Ruling for the plaintiffs, the District Court prohibited the Commission from releasing certain documents (for details see AFL-CIO v. FEC, 2001 WL 1636586 (D.D.C. 2001)). # # # |
