Comment Sought On Proposed Rule Involving Reports to FEC

Commissioners approved the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) 6-0 in an October 10 public meeting. The NPRM addresses:

• reporting of electioneering communications;
• reporting of independent expenditures;
• quarterly reporting by the principal campaign committees of candidates for the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate;
• monthly reporting by political party committees;
• reporting of funds for political party committee office buildings.

Comments are due on or before November 8, 2002 and should be addressed to John Vergelli, Acting Assistant General Counsel, and must be submitted in either electronic or written form. Electronic mail comments should be sent to BCRAreport@fec.gov and must include the full name, electronic mail address, and postal service address of the commenter. Electronic mail comments that do not contain the full name, electronic mail address, and postal service address of the commenter will not be considered.

Written comments and printed copies of faxed comments should be sent to the Federal Election Commission, 999 E Street, NW, Washington, DC, 20463. Commenters are strongly encouraged to submit comments electronically to ensure timely receipt and consideration. The Commission will make every effort to post comments on its web site within 10 business days of the close of the comment period.
