AUDITS

Final Audit Report on the Democratic Party of Orange County FED PAC. On September 29, the Commission made public the Final Audit Report on the Democratic Party of Orange County FED PAC, covering activity between January 1, 2007 and December 31, 2008. The Commission found (1) a misstatement of receipts and disbursements, and (2) a failure to deposit individuals’ contributions in a timely manner.

LITIGATION

Dan La Botz v. FEC (No. 11-cv-01247 (BAH)). On September 23, the plaintiff filed a Response to the Commission’s Motion to Dismiss in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. Plaintiff Dan La Botz is challenging the dismissal of an administrative complaint (MUR 6383) he filed with the Commission in 2010.

FEC v. Kazran (No. 3:10-cv-1155 (RBD-JRK)). On September 28, defendant Sam Kazran filed a Verified Opposition to Plaintiff''''s Motion for Summary Judgment in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida.

Van Hollen v. FEC (No. 1:11-cv-00766 (ABJ)). On September 23, the Commission filed a Reply in Support of its Motion for Summary Judgment in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. Representative Chris Van Hollen challenges as contrary to law a Commission regulation concerning disclosure of electioneering communications, 11 C.F.R. 104.20(c)(9).

OUTREACH

On September 26, Chair Cynthia L. Bauerly discussed federal campaign finance laws and the Commission''''s enforcement authority with representatives of the Election Commission of Malaysia.

On September 29, Chair Bauerly discussed current developments in campaign finance with Ambassador Peter Taksoe-Jensen of Denmark.
