COMMISSION MEETINGS ENFORCEMENT The Commission made public one closed case this week. For more information, see the case documents in the Enforcement Query System. MUR 6220 – Obama Victory Fund and Andrew Tobias, in his official capacity as treasurer; and Julie Walden. The Commission found no reason to believe the respondents violated the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971, as amended (the Act). ADMINISTRATIVE FINES The Commission made public nine campaign finance enforcement matters that were resolved through its Administrative Fines (AF) program. For more information, see the case documents in the Enforcement Query System. AF 2035 – Dan East for Congress 2008 and Betsy Phillis, in her official capacity as treasurer. The Commission made a final determination and assessed a civil penalty of $750. AF 2057 – Dan East for Congress 2008 and Betsy Phillis, in her official capacity as treasurer. The Commission made a final determination and assessed a civil penalty of $2,700. AF 2103 – Betty Chu 4 Congress and Brian Thomas Chu, in his official capacity as treasurer. The Commission made a final determination and assessed a civil penalty of $250. AF 2107 – Betty Chu 4 Congress and Brian Thomas Chu, in his official capacity as treasurer. The Commission made a final determination and assessed a civil penalty of $6,050. AF 2111 – Fairfax County Republican Committee (Federal) and Michael Rumberg, in his official capacity as treasurer. The Commission made a final determination and assessed a civil penalty of $550. AF 2112 – Local 401 Iron Workers Political Action Fund and Joseph J. Dougherty, in his official capacity as treasurer. The Commission made a final determination and assessed a civil penalty of $446. AF 2113 – Citizens to Elect Robert Marshall and Robert Marshall, in his official capacity as treasurer. The Commission made a final determination and assessed a civil penalty of $210. AF 2115 – Gutierrez for Congress and Omaira Gutierrez, in her official capacity as treasurer. The Commission made a final determination and assessed a civil penalty of $660. AF 2116 – Jesse Jackson Jr. for Congress and Vickie Pasley, in her official capacity as treasurer. The Commission made a final determination and assessed a civil penalty of $505. AUDIT REPORTS
The Commission approved and made public an Audit Report. A summary of the findings is below.
Minneapolis Saint Paul 2008 Host Committee. The Audit examined reports and statements filed by the Committee and discovered no material non-compliance.
General information about final audit reports is here. LITIGATION The Real Truth About Obama, Inc. v. Federal Election Commission. On June 22, the plaintiff filed a petition for rehearing en banc in the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. On June 23, the Court issued a Stay of Mandate Under Fed. R. App. P. 41(d)(1) pending disposition of the petition for rehearing en banc. OUTREACH
On June 24, 2010, Chairman Matthew S. Petersen and Communications Specialist Stephanie Caccomo met with Hassan Aghmari, Director of Elections for the Kingdom of Morocco. Aghmari was visiting the United States to gain an in-depth understanding of the U.S. election system. His visit was sponsored by the Department of State''''s International Visitor Leadership Program.
On June 21, 2010, a 17-member Elderhostel group participating in the American Civics Center''''s Public Policy Elderhostel Program met with Communication Specialist Myles Martin to discuss how the agency administers and enforces federal campaign finance laws.
