COMMISSION MEETINGS AND HEARINGS

No Commission open meetings or executive sessions were scheduled this week.

ENFORCEMENT

The Commission made public one closed case, as follows. For more information, see the case documents in the Enforcement Query System.

COMPLAINANTS: FEC-Initiated; and Charles Tait Eckland
RESPONDENTS: Friends of Sharron Angle and Robert Fee, in his official capacity as treasurer
SUBJECT: In the normal course of carrying out its supervisory responsibilities and based on information contained in a complaint, the Commission initiated proceedings to determine whether there was reason to believe that Friends of Sharron Angle and Fee, in his official capacity as treasurer, (the Committee) violated the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971, as amended, (the Act) by misreporting the Committee’s operating expenditures, disbursements, and debts and obligations. Angle was a 2010 candidate for Nevada’s United States Senate seat.
DISPOSITION: The Commission entered into a conciliation agreement providing for the Committee to pay a civil penalty of $12,834.89.

ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION

The Commission made public one campaign finance enforcement matter that was resolved through its Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) program, as follows. For more information, see the case documents in the Enforcement Query System.

ADR 652– Liberty Unleashed and Jae Kim, in his official capacity as treasurer. The respondent agreed to (1) work with Commission staff to terminate the Committee and (2) pay a civil penalty of $1,000.

LITIGATION

Free Speech v. FEC (Case 13-8033). On December 30, 2013, the Petitioner filed a Petition for a Writ of Certiorari with the United States Supreme Court.

January 16, 2014: The Commission is scheduled to hold both an open meeting and an executive session.
