Advisory opinions
Request received
Advisory Opinion Request 2016-09 (Martins for Congress)
On August 25, the Commission made public Advisory Opinion Request 2016-09 (Martins for Congress). The requester asks whether it may raise contributions subject to a separate limit for a new primary. The Commission will accept written comments on the request during the 10-day period following publication of the request (no later than September 6, 2016) and must issue a response no later than 20 days after the receipt of the complete request, that is, by September 13.
Litigation
- CREW v. FEC (Case 1:16-cv-01088). On August 22, the Commission filed its Motion to Dismiss in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.
- McChesney, et al. v. FEC (Case 8:16-cv-00168-LSC-FG3). On August 22, the Commission filed the Reply Brief of Defendants Federal Election Commission and Matthew S. Petersen in Support of Their Motion to Dismiss in the United States District Court for the District of Nebraska.
- Stop Reckless Economic Instability caused by Democrats, et al. v. FEC(Case 16-109). On August 24, the Cato Institute and the Ventura County Republican Party filed Briefs asAmicus Curiae in support of the Petition for Writ of Certiorari in the United States Supreme Court.

This publication identifies the federal and state agencies responsible for the disclosure of campaign finances, lobbying, personal finances, public financing, candidates on the ballot, election results, spending on state initiatives and other financial filings.
