Texas special election reporting: 18th Congressional District (2024)
Texas will hold a Special General Election on November 5, 2024, to fill the 18th Congressional District House seat held by the late Representative Sheila Jackson Lee. Under Texas law, all qualified candidates, regardless of party affiliation, will appear on the ballot. A majority winner of the Special General Election is declared elected. Should no candidate achieve a majority vote, the Governor will then set the date for a Special Runoff Election that will include only the top two vote-getters. If a Special Runoff Election is held, the Commission will notify committees of the reporting dates for that election.
Participating candidates must file additional reports in connection with the special election(s). PACs and party committees that do not file monthly and make previously undisclosed contributions or expenditures in connection with the special election(s) must also file additional reports. The complete list of deadlines and related filing information is available on the Dates and deadlines page. PACs and party committees that file monthly should continue to file according to their regular filing schedule.
