Reporting deadlines change as states reschedule elections

May 21, 2026

As states reschedule congressional primary elections to account for redistricting, the reporting dates and deadlines associated with those elections will change. The changes will affect pre-election reports (including 48-Hour Notices for candidate committees), as well as the coordinated communications, electioneering communications, Federal Election Activity and independent expenditure periods for primary elections.

Please note, if a state postpones its election after a participating committee has filed a pre-election report for that election, the participating committee must file an additional pre-election report due 12 days before the new election date. Otherwise, committees need only file the pre-election report for the new election date.

For more information, please visit the Commission’s Dates and deadlines web page. To receive automated email notifications, please subscribe to the “Congressional Pre-Primary” topic in FECMail.

If you have questions, please contact staff in the Information Division at 800-424-9530 (menu option 6). Committees with reporting questions are encouraged to contact their Campaign Finance Analyst at 800-424-9530 (menu option 5).
