Receiving contributions from unregistered groups

February 23, 2026

When campaigns receive contributions from groups that are not political committees registered with the FEC (such as state PACs, unregistered local party committees or nonfederal campaigns), they must make sure that:

  1. The contribution complies with the applicable $3,500 per election limit; and
  2. The funds used to make the contribution are permissible under the Act (e.g., no corporate or union funds).

On its FEC report, the campaign should note that the contribution contains only federally permissible funds.
