Lobbyist bundling disclosure threshold increases (2017)

February 16, 2017

The Federal Election Campaign Act, as amended by the Honest Leadership and Open Government Act of 2007 (HLOGA), requires certain political committees to disclose contributions bundled by lobbyists/registrants and lobbyist/registrant PACs once the contributions exceed a specified threshold amount. The Commission must adjust the threshold amount at the beginning of each calendar year.

The threshold is calculated by multiplying the $15,000 statutory threshold by the difference between the preceding year’s price index, as certified by the Secretary of Labor, and the price index for the base period (CY 2006). The resulting amount is rounded to the nearest multiple of $100. 52 U.S.C. §§ 30104(i)(3) and 30116(c). Based on this formula ($15,000 x 1.19052), the lobbyist bundling disclosure threshold for 2017 is $17,900.

The lobbyist bundling disclosure threshold was published in the Federal Register on February 16, 2017 at 82 Fed. Reg. 10904.
