Gaining multicandidate status

A multicandidate committee is a political committee that has been registered with the FEC for at least 6 months, has received contributions from more than 50 persons and has made contributions to at least 5 federal candidates. Once a committee qualifies as a multicandidate committee, it must file Form 1M within 10 days. Additionally, when making contributions to candidates, the committee must provide written notification to the recipient campaign that the committee is a multicandidate committee. For convenience, that notice may be pre-printed on the committee’s checks, letterhead or other appropriate materials.
