FEC OPEN MEETING TUESDAY AUGUST 29th |
---|
The Federal Election Commission will meet at 10 a.m. on Tuesday August 29, 2006. The Commission will consider an Advisory Opinion request from Cantwell 2006 regarding the application of the millionaire’s amendment (which allows candidates to receive contributions greater than the $2,100 limit for individuals if their opponent spends significant personal funds in a race) to primary and general election races. The AO request can be found here, along with any comments received prior to the meeting. The draft advisory opinion response to be considered by the Commission can be found here. The FEC will also consider an Advisory Opinion request from Texans for Henry Bonilla concerning contribution limits for special elections to be held in certain Texas Congressional Districts recently redrawn by a federal court. The AO request can be found here, along with any comments received prior to the meeting. The draft advisory opinion response to be considered by the Commission can be found here. In addition, the Commission will consider a proposed Interim Final Rule which would exempt certain grassroots lobbying communications from the definition of “electioneering communication.” “Electioneering Communications” are broadcasting advertisements that refer to a Federal candidate and are distributed to the relevant electorate within 30 days of a primary election or 60 days of a general election. Under current regulations, corporations (for-profit and non-profit) and labor unions may not make “electioneering communications.” The proposed interim final rule can be found here. The meeting will be held at 10 a.m. in the 9th floor hearing room at the Commission’s offices at 999 E Street N.W. in Washington.
