FEC to host Independent Expenditures & Pre-Election Communications Webinar (2020)
Political committees, individuals and organizations have spent nearly $318 million on independent expenditures so far this election cycle, and that amount is likely to increase significantly over the next few months. If you’d like to learn more about these unlimited express advocacy communications, as well as other types of communications frequently made close to an election, please plan to attend the Commission’s September 2 Independent Expenditures & Pre-Election Communications Webinar.
Staff from the FEC’s Information and Reports Analysis Divisions will review the regulations and reporting requirements for individuals, political committees and organizations who make independent expenditures, electioneering communications and coordinated communications. Participants will learn how to differentiate between these types of communications, and the consequences of making one rather than another. We’ll also review disclaimer requirements for different types of pre-election communications and work through several scenarios to demonstrate how and when to report communications. During this two-hour webinar, participants will be able to interact with the FEC’s presenters and chat hosts in real time through a Q&A pod and poll questions.
