FEBRUARY HEARING SET ON PROPOSED RECORDKEEPING RULE
WASHINGTON-The Federal Election Commission will conduct a public hearing on February 11, 1998, to receive testimony on proposed changes to regulations governing recordkeeping, reporting, and filing of campaign disclosure reports.
The draft rules, published in the Federal Register (62 FR 50708) on September 26, 1997, propose several changes to present regulations, including reorganizing the reporting requirements; permitting alternatives for reporting loan repayments; simplifying the reporting requirements for draws on a line of credit; clarifying procedures for reporting disbursements paid by credit card; and streamlining reporting requirements for the receipt of legal and accounting services.
Additionally, the proposed changes would conform the Commission''''s regulations for filing reports with state offices to recent amendments to the Federal Election Campaign Act.
The hearing will begin at 10 a.m. on February 11 in the FEC''''s 9th floor hearing room. Requests to testify must be received on or before January 23. Those requesting to testify also must submit written comments by January 23, if they have not previously submitted written comments.
Requests to testify, and any accompanying comments, should be addressed to Susan E. Propper, Assistant General Counsel, Federal Election Commission, 999 E Street, NW, Washington, DC 20463. Faxed requests and comments should be sent to Ms. Propper at 202-219-3923. Requests and comments also may be sent by e-mail to reprec@fec.gov.
Notice of the hearing date was published in the Federal Register (62 FR 67300) on December 24. The notice and the draft rules also are available at the FEC''''s website, http://www.fec.gov.
