District Court issues opinion in CREW v. FEC

September 19, 2016

WASHINGTON — The U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia today issued a Memorandum Opinion and Order in CREW et al. v FEC (Case 1:14-cv-01419-CRC). The court granted CREW’s Motion for Summary Judgment and denied the FEC’s Cross-Motion for Summary Judgment, as well as Intervenor American Action Network’s Cross-Motion for Summary Judgment.

CREW had challenged the FEC’s dismissal of its administrative complaints against the American Action Network and Americans for Job Security. The District Court today remanded the case to the FEC for reconsideration.

The Federal Election Commission (FEC) is an independent regulatory agency that administers and enforces federal campaign finance laws. The FEC has jurisdiction over the financing of campaigns for the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate, the Presidency and the Vice Presidency. Established in 1975, the FEC is composed of six Commissioners who are nominated by the President and confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
