District court enters default judgment against the Commission in Campaign Legal Center v. FEC (21-0406)
On March 25, 2022, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia granted Campaign Legal Center (“plaintiff”) a default judgment against the FEC. The court noted that the Commission failed to plead or otherwise defend in this action.
In February 2021, plaintiff initially filed suit alleging that the Commission failed to act on its administrative complaint, which alleges that Heritage Action for America, a 501(c)(4) organization, violated the Act by failing to disclose who paid to further its independent expenditures in the required disclosure reports. The court held that the Commission’s failure to act on this complaint is contrary to law and ordered the Commission to conform with the court’s declaration within 30 days.
