Court enters consent judgment between FEC and Jeremy Johnson (2:15-cv-00439-DB)
On August 19, 2020, the United States District Court for the District of Utah entered a consent judgment finding that defendant Jeremy Johnson knowingly and willfully violated the Federal Election Campaign Act. Johnson contributed approximately $50,000 to Senator Mike Lee's campaign and about $20,000 to Senator Harry Reid's campaign during the 2009-2010 election cycle using straw donors.
Because Johnson is currently limited in his ability to earn a living, and because he presently owes the federal government millions of dollars in connection with other actions, the Commission agreed to forego any civil penalty. If Johnson's financial condition as of the date he signs the Stipulation is not as represented, he will immediately owe a civil penalty of $270,000.
