Alabama special election reporting 2018: Senate

March 1, 2017

Alabama will hold Special Primary and General Elections in 2018 to fill the Senate seat vacated by Senator Jeff Sessions. The Special Primary will be held June 5, 2018, and the Special General will be held on November 6, 2018.

Under Alabama law, if no candidate receives a majority vote in his/her party’s Special Primary Election, the top two vote-getters participate in a Special Runoff Election held on July 17, 2018.

Reporting deadlines for the Alabama Senate Special Elections were published in the Federal Register on February 28, 2017 (82 Fed. Reg. 12099). The FEC will publish a more detailed Record article next year covering all of the specific deadlines.

*Editor's note: These elections were rescheduled for 2017.
