District court issues opinion in CREW v. FEC
WASHINGTON – The United States District Court for the District of Columbia on Friday issued a Memorandum Opinion and Order in CREW v. FEC (Case No. 16-0259), granting the Plaintiff’s motion for summary judgment and denying the Commission’s cross-motion for summary judgment. The court vacated the Commission’s earlier dismissal of an administrative complaint filed by the Plaintiffs and ordered the Commission to reconsider the matter within 30 days of the court’s order, in accordance with the opinion. The court further vacated the Commission’s regulation at 11 CFR 109.10(e)(1)(vi), effective 45 days from the date of the order.
The Federal Election Commission (FEC) is an independent regulatory agency that administers and enforces federal campaign finance laws. The FEC has jurisdiction over the financing of campaigns for the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate, the Presidency and the Vice Presidency. Established in 1975, the FEC is composed of six Commissioners who are nominated by the President and confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
