Updating the Candidate Committee List

FECFile allows users to look up candidates and committees from within the software. Upon opening, the software prompts the user once every thirty days to download the candidate/committee list. This list provides the current candidate/committee ID, address, and other information. Through the software, if for some reason you cannot connect to the download server, we have provided alternative instructions below on how to retrieve the list.

  1. Go to the website by typing "download.nictusa.com/dl/" in the address section of your web browser.
  2. Right click on the "RAW File (.cm)" word link.
  3. Left click on the "Save Target As." option.
  4. Change the "Save in:" folder to "runtime" by double left clicking on your "local C:" drive, Then double left clicking on the "FECfile" folder and last double left click on the "runtime" folder.
  5. Left click on "Save"
  6. When done saving, you can close down your web browser.
  7. From your desktop, double left click on the "My Computer" icon.
  8. Double left click on your "local C:"
  9. Double left click on the "FECfile" folder.
  10. Double left click on the "runtime" folder.
  11. Consult with a computer expert to make sure that in the "Folder Options." under the "Tools" section, the check box for "Hide extensions for known file types" is NOT checked.
  12. Rename the downloaded file "export2.cm.txt" to "export2.cm" by deleting the file extension (.txt) Once these procedures are done, just open the FECFile software and file.
  13. The lookup database has been updated.
