Extension of Time Received
AOR 2013-18 (Revolution Messaging, LLC). On January 27, the Commission received an Extension of Time through February 28, 2014 on Advisory Opinion Request 2013-18 from Revolution Messaging. The requestor asks whether the proposed mobile phone banner advertisements are exempt from the disclaimer requirement of the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971, as amended.
Audit Division Recommendation Memorandum on the Dallas County Republican Party. On January 30, the Commission approved the Audit Division Recommendation Memorandum on the Dallas County Republican Party, covering campaign finance activity between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2010. The Commission approved findings related to the misstatement of financial activity and recordkeeping for employees. The Audit Division will prepare the Proposed Final Audit Report within 30 days.
Audit Division Recommendation Memorandum on the Republican Party of Iowa. On January 30, the Commission approved the Audit Division Recommendation Memorandum on the Republican Party of Iowa, covering campaign finance activity between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2010. The Commission approved findings related to recordkeeping for employees and the failure to itemize debts and obligations. The Commission directed the Audit Division to include in the Proposed Final Audit Report an Additional Issues section addressing payroll for certain non-federal activity. The Audit Division will prepare the Proposed Final Audit Report within 30 days.
Combat Veterans for Congress PAC v. FEC (Case 13-5358). On January 27, the Commission filed its Motion for Summary Affirmance in the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
Public Citizen, et al. v. FEC (Case 1:14-cv-00148). On January 31, plaintiffs filed a complaint in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. The lawsuit challenges the Commission’s dismissal of a complaint against Crossroads Grassroots Political Strategies (MUR 6396).
On January 27, Communications Specialists Dorothy Yeager and Kathy Carothers spoke to the Association of Government Relations Professionals as part of the organization's PAC and campaign finance training program.
On January 29, Chairman Lee Goodman discussed the role of the Commission with a group of political and governmental leaders from Colombia as part of the State Department's International Visitor Leadership Program.
