SCHEDULE SET FOR JUNE 4 – 5 PUBLIC HEARING

WASHINGTON – A two-day hearing is set to begin at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow and Wednesday (June 4 – 5) to gain public input on the Federal Election Commission’s proposed rulemaking on aspects of the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002 (BCRA) that eliminate or restrict non-federal financial activity ("soft money") for national, state, and local party organizations.

The FEC issued the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on May 9, with a public-comment and request-to-testify deadline of May 29. Under the BCRA, signed into law by President Bush on March 27, the Congressionally-mandated date of rule-promulgation on this aspect of the law is June 25.

The Commission received 19 sets of comments from various members of the public, Congressional, and party entities. Those requesting to testify and the schedule for June 4 – 5 are:
