Disclosure Data Weblog

We're working on the front end for detailed candidate disbursement files, and we'd like to get your feedback.  Take a look at these screenshots and let us know what you think.

We begin with options for downloading all of the itemized disbursements for all 2010 candidates, or for all House candidates, or for all Senate candidates (under "bulk downloads" on the right side of the screen) or the option to choose a state

There are also links directly to the metadata page describing the file, and a link here to the blog if you have questions or would like to make a comment. The selection by state is a dropdown menu - pretty straightforward

Once you've selected a state you can either grab the data for all candidates in the state or for all candidates in either House or Senate campaigns (again, on the right) or you can get more specific by choosing a race in the second dropdown on the left.

If you choose House in this menu you'll see a list of all House Districts in the state, and you can download just those disbursements made by candidates in that district.

If you choose Senate you'll see a list of the specific candidates and you can download the detailed disbursements for the candidate you're looking for. (Hopefully you know that you can get detailed operating expenditures for specific House candidates by using the campaign finance map.)

We think this is a simple approach that gives you some flexibility to get just what you need - but you be the judge.  Let us know if you have comments or suggestions.

Thanks

This is excellent stuff! Any chance you all can also post a sample XML file so we can start coding against that in advance? Regards, Serdar

I agree; this looks good. Will the download files have permanent urls?

Derek, Yes, the files will have permanent URL's. Thanks for taking a look.
